*Reupload after Youtube decided it wanted to keep the video stuck at 360p

Skip to the footage: 2:34 and 7:04 (No post processing. Filmed in 4k default settings)

Ever since the DJI Mavic was first introduced, I've been wanting to find a stand alone version of just the camera/gimbal. So of course I rushed down to the nearest Best Buy today to pickup the all new Osmo Pocket.

First impressions, Its very small and light weight, for what its capable of, 3 axis gimbal with a touch screen and 4k 60fps recording ability. Its very well built, and has a nice solid feel, on par with DJIs other quality stuff. Normal operation, using it as a small pocket gimbal is great! Now...thats not why I'm here for, lets strap it to my 7" longrange quad.

About that FOV... Watching the footage after the fact, its obviously very very narrow. And not being able to quite control the pitch axis makes it hard to know if you're getting anything in frame. That's whats so nice about superview on a gopro, the lens is so wide its kinda spray and pray style, you'll probably get whatever in shot. Maybe mounting the camera vertically so its more like its being held will work better and allow the gimbal to hold its angles better. Making a proper 3d mount for this will be next.

That nasty jello i think can be mitigated with some slower shutter speed and better mounting. I might have to isolate it from the main frame.

I think there is some promise, these flights were all in a rushed hour or so while I tried to dodge rainclouds. With some more time I think the Osmo Pocket could do some cool stuff.

Would I recommend it for FPV use? Nope, not yet. maybe when people have figured out how to make it work, and how to utilize the narrow FOV. But for now, stick to your ultra wide HD cameras.

DJI, please release a wide angle Osmo Pocket. That would be sooooooocooooolll. Also make it be controllable via BF!
