We Survived - First Car - Ford Fiesta ST

Thomas getting his first car!! Cutting a long story short, this project got put on hold so many times. He was supposed to go for his license last year. Even though he had his 120hours completed, with year 12 and trying to still race meant it was going to be almost impossible to find the time to arrange to sit his test.

Once Year 12 was finished we had Christmas quickly approaching followed be Sebring 2018, so once again everything was put on hold. After Sebring he was undecided as to going for his Auto License or Manual! So we were now put on hold because if he was going to go down the path of Manual, he was going to need a manual car to practice on.

The next big problem was getting him to decide on a car. In Australia once you get your license you’re on your P plates for 4 years (Probationary License). This means there are strict restrictions in terms of what cars you can and can’t drive! After much research the Ford Fiesta ST seemed to meet his requirements lol

We found a few in Melbourne but most either had issues with too higher milage or other issues. He preferred Blue and we found one in Sydney that had low milage and the owner seemed like a nice guy! We ended up asking one of our FPV friends (Matt) who lives in Sydney to check it out for us. It’s worth mentioning that for a living this guy flies A380s and is not only an FPVer but a car nut! The report we got back from him was insane because he checked things I wouldn’t have even checked myself lol Thanks Matt!! Actually if you’ve read this far remember to thank Matt for checking out the car for us.

After Matt’s report on the car, we negotiated the price and that afternoon left the flying field to go to the bank and get out some cash and organise Insurance and flights.

Next morning we’re up at 4am for a 6am flight to Sydney, then a 1 hour uber ride to pay for and pick up the car, then followed by almost 9 hours of driving to get home. With stops it took us about 11 hours to get home. That included a stop to get footage and also teach Thomas enough so he could change gears safely and get on the freeway for some of the drive home.

I know there wasn’t much in the way of spectacular flying etc but I thought it would be cool to share the adventure of getting him his first car.

Anyway thanks for watching and hope we didn’t put you to sleep with our silly little adventure lol
