Maiden flight of the ImpulseRC Helix ZX5 we did in the previous Build video. This is essentially the second part to that video which covers it’s maiden.
Note this is a True X version of the Helix, other variations are available through ImpulseRC such as Stretch X mid plates etc
The configuration of the quads we fly is pretty similar to this build but I will do a more detailed video on the way we build our quads and include the pros and cons to how we go about building our and why we’ve made the decisions we’ve made.
For the maiden we thought we’d do something a little different in that we were going to run it on the MultiGP UTT1 Track which is a good measure of a quad and it’s pilot. The intention wasn’t to break a UTT Record but as it turns out this flight did. In fact a few flights after this he went way faster, but we can re-visit that another day. Please note we won’t submit this as an official time, but we may have a crack at it again when time allows.
I guess the point here is even with this basic setup, the quad is highly competitive. I did state in the previous video that we would give this quad away and hence why Thomas was being careful with it . . since we didn’t want to give away a less than perfect quad. We still haven’t decided how, since there are so many conflicting ideas. Some of the ideas people have suggested include:
Do a random Giveaway using some sort of comment picker.
Do a Giveaway where we select who gets it.
Get people to submit videos and pick one.
Give it to a top pilot and essentially do a quad swap (Thomas flies their quad and they fly this).
and the list goes on!! We will give this frame away . . just not sure how we go about it.
