I knew this day would have to come eventually, but I didn't expect it to feel so bittersweet. For the last 6 months I've been uploading Daily flight edits and have been having the time of my life. I've learned so much during this period, and got a massive amount of sticktime in, and I don't believe for a second I could have made it where I am today without having forced myself to be this consistent. But for the last month or so I've been feeling like a change of pace would be beneficial on a lot of different levels.
The most obvious reason why I'm stopping daily uploads around this time would be the lack of daylight during the winter (and the cold). Generally you guys are watching a video that was flown after work the day prior, edited, and then released ~12 hours after it was first recorded. Since flying after work is now impossible, that leaves me with only Saturday and Sunday for getting footage for the entire next week. If I want to bring you a variety of locations then I'm only going to be able to get 1-2 packs in per spot and that's just not fair to you guys. It just seems forced and rushed.
Another big reason I'm stopping daily uploads is that lately I've been working harder on the actual editing part, trying to make better, more "professional" videos. I feel like you all deserve this, but it also takes a lot more time to do. For the last 6 months my routine has been "Fly for an hour, spend 30 mins watching over footage and picking a song. Edit for 1-2 hours, watch the final run like 3 times (cuz I love it :P), export, watch the export and make sure it didn't glitch, find a thumbnail frame, screenshot and make the image, and then upload and type all this stuff". It is definitely a serious time commitment, but I love it and have fun the entire time. However, as my flying has gotten better, my edits had to follow, and anymore sometimes I might easily spend 3-4 hours finishing one up. Working an 8-5 job while trying to squeeze that in every day is definitely a struggle.
One day I hope to be able to make this industry my full-time gig, but until then (or just some random day in the future, who knows ;) the daily edits will have to be done. I still plan to post 3 times a week, maybe 4, but it's time to have a little flexibility.
