Did you know Domino's Pizza chose a Maule M-5-235C as their first corporate aircraft?
It's true. According to Maule, the owner of Domino's (Tom Monaghan) told the owner of Maule that if he was able to land the plane on the lawn of Domino's corporate headquarters, he'd buy it.
Not surprisingly to any AvGeek, he had no problem landing on the lawn.
Monaghan apparently held up his end of the bargain and handed a check over right then and there.
The aircraft then was used to fly around to various Domino's locations around the country.
Which on one hand is kind of surprising given it's small size and STOL capabilities...but on the other hand, may have been quite effective to visit various locations within a small region of the country as inexpensively as possible.
I actually saw this Maule in person back when I worked line in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I wish I had taken some photos, but film was expensive for a lineboy back in the ‘90s.
Apparently, it was exported to Europe, where it was put on floats and then destroyed in a crash shortly thereafter.
